Renowned but discreet, the blacksmith who gave birth to me was a victim of his own success. Brigands robbed him just as he was finishing forging me. Having no mount at the time, they paid no attention to me resting on the polishing base. But when the samurai master to whom I was destined discovered the theft, he found a new craftsman to create my blood-red mount.

Sharp Katana with scabbard (saya 鞘) in black lacquered wood with reliefs (droplets), braiding (tsuka-Ito 柄糸 and sageo 下緒) brown (brown) | Legend has it that I was born from a piece of earth extracted from the Sacred Mountain, Fujisan (富士山). The master blacksmith who gave me life would have chosen the best ore to transform it, after weeks of hard labor into a fine blade. Polished, razor-sharp, I was then entrusted to a samurai who took part in the Battle of Sekigahara (関ヶ原の戦い), in 1600.
