Everything about me is harmonious, from the dark blue of my ito and sageo to my saya, which bears the image of the one whose name I bear, Ryūjin (龍神), the God of the Ocean. My samurai master wanted it this way because his origins, close to the coast, had immersed him, both literally and figuratively, in the ocean and its legends. Speaking of legends, my master's tells of his stay in Ryūgū-jō (竜宮城 / 龍宮城), Ryūjin's underwater palace. It was there that he learned to wield the sword, saved by the Dragon after a storm had swept away his frail fishing boat. From this profession, my master became a master swordsman, capable of handling all kinds of bladed weapons with exceptional dexterity, such as the katana, wakizashi, and tantō, the three swords that accompanied warriors in their battles.
Ryujin is the father of the beautiful goddess Otohime. She married the hunter prince Hoori. The first emperor of Japan, Jimmu, is considered to be the grandson of Otohime and Hoori. I therefore bear the name of Ryujin, Dragon King, but also that of one of the ancestors of the Japanese imperial dynasty.
