Medieval sword / dagger holder in brown or black leather

Belt loop for medieval/templar sword or dagger in stitched and riveted natural leather

Accessory or indispensable? I like to think of myself as indispensable, because I make carrying a sword or dagger much more practical. I enable knights and enthusiasts to wear their favorite weapon with flexibility. I offer them permanent availability and comfort, simply clipped to their belt.

"Knights and Chivalry in the Middle Ages: Everyday Life", Jean Flori

Chivalry is first and foremost an image, that of noble heroes in shining armor, brandishing banners in shimmering colors to throw themselves, lance or sword in fist, to the rescue of the afflicted, the widow and the orphan. Reality is more complex and evolution more chaotic. The word "chevalier" is ambiguous, and even more so the notion of "chivalry". Its Latin meaning, the militiarefers to the armed force serving the state. In the Middle Ages, this public function became privatized and its aristocratic and military characteristics increased. It was the strengthening of heavy cavalry that gave it its impetus between the IXᵗʰ and XIᵗʰ centuries. But it wasn't until the 12th century that chivalry asserted itself, with the widespread use of the prone spear charge. It then adopted a deontological code, based on honor, which "humanized" the "laws of war" to some extent. At the same time, the Church tried to assign it a mission and an ethic in keeping with its cause. Thus, from the XIᵗʰ to the XIIIᵗʰ century, the essential features of a chivalry that was gradually becoming an elite brotherhood of the nobility were sketched out.
