My ancestors were born to protect and defend.
Forged from steels selected for their qualities, these swords have known the sun of Jerusalem. It was in the XIIᵉ century, in the special, committed atmosphere of the crusades.
They crossed the sea, faced fatigue, thirst, hunger and doubt to finally arrive on this coveted land. Faced with the urgency of battle, they answered the call, for that was their destiny, their vocation.
Reproduced in a small format, suitable for decorating a desk, opening secret letters and missives, I continue to bear with dignity the characteristic symbols of the Order of the Temple: Templar seal, coat of arms and Templar cross.

When the Knights Templar invented the first traveller's cheque

In the XIIᵉ century, the Knights Templar didn't just protect pilgrims: they also revolutionized finance!
As early as 1150, a traveler could deposit his gold in a commandery in Paris or London and receive an encrypted parchment. On arrival in Jerusalem, he would present this document and receive the equivalent in cash, without having transported treasure over roads infested with brigands. This letter of credit, the forerunner of the cheque and the traveller's cheque, provided security for the faithful and prosperity for the order, which set up the first international banking network in the Middle Ages.

History & Symbol

Templar sword decorated with the Templar seal, with pair of medieval gauntlets

Templar sword and seal

It's unlikely that the seal was used to decorate the pommel of the Templar knights' swords. Indeed, in the Middle Ages, the seal was the principal means of authenticating a document. As well as acting as a signature, it guaranteed the confidentiality of a message, and certified its origin.

The Templar seal has two sides: the first representing the Dome of the Rock; the second the symbol of the order (two knights on a single horse, surrounded by the phrase "☩ Sigillum ⫶ Militum ⫶ Xpisti").
