3D printing workshop #Terressens

3D printing is revolutionizing the way we design and create objects. PLA is a filament and stands out as one of the most popular materials for this technology. Derived from natural resources such as corn and sugarcane, PLA is an environmentally-friendly bioplastic.

Stereolithography 3D printing (SLA ) is a 3D printing technique that uses the polymerization of a liquid photosensitive resin to build three-dimensional objects.

#Terressens manufactures a variety of 3D printed objects, including katana stands, samurai busts and other decorative items.

Filament 3D printing

Our workshop has several 3D printers per filament. Converted into a language the 3D printer can understand by a slicer, the 3D model is cut into horizontal layers. The result is a G-Code file containing instructions for the printer on how to build each layer.

The PLA filament is inserted into the printer's extrusion system. The printer heats the printing plate and extrusion head to temperatures appropriate for PLA (generally around 180-220° C). The extrusion head moves in three dimensions, creating the object layer by layer. PLA cools rapidly after deposition, solidifying the printed layer and allowing the next layer to be added.

Stereolithography printing

The 3D model is imported into a preparation program called a slicer (as with filament printing). The slicer cuts the model into horizontal layers(slices) and generates a file containing instructions for the printer, indicating how each layer is to be printed.

The photosensitive resin is poured into the machine's reservoir. It can be of different colors and properties, depending on the specific needs of the project.

The printing platform is positioned above the resin tank. The distance between the resin surface and the bottom of the platform is adjusted according to the thickness of the layer to be printed.

Stereolithography uses ultraviolet (UV) light to cure the liquid resin. A laser or UV light source is directed at the resin surface, following the path defined by the layer file.

When the UV light strikes the resin, it causes polymerization, transforming the liquid resin into a solid material. The platform is then lowered by the height of the next layer, and the process is repeated to build the next layer on top of the previous one.

The previous two steps are repeated until all the layers of the 3D model have been printed.

Our workshop is also equipped with stereolithography (SLA) technology, using vat polymerization with UV LEDs. Once printed, the parts are cleaned with isopropyl alcohol and then cured with a UV lamp. Next comes the painting phase, using airbrushes (the whole part) and/or brushes (special areas such as the mempo teeth; 3D model: Mostrok).
