My vocation is to sublimate the weapon I carry. My discreet design represents the sun and the moon, two complementary stars in Japan as in the West. In Shinto beliefs, Amaterasu is the goddess of the Sun (天 ama and 照 terasu, the highest deity in Japanese mythology). God of the moon and night, Tsukuyomi (月読) is her younger brother.
Amaterasu is the ancestor of the Japanese imperial family. She also introduced rice, wheat and silkworms. She appears on the Japanese flag in the guise of the sun disk, with or without its rays. As for Tsukuyomi, he remains very discreet in Japanese mythology. As you can see, this divine combination represents that which is manifest, that which is visible, and that which is subjacent, discreet, but equally important to Balance.

"Dictionary of Japanese gods: The 200 principal deities of Shintoism", Kévin Tembouret

Between history and folklore, Shintoism is a religion that has blended with various influences since its beginnings (political power, foreign religions, local folklore...). Its existence endures and takes root in a country in constant evolution. Today, there are still over 80,000 Shinto shrines scattered across the 4 corners of Japan. With this book, discover the 200 most important gods and goddesses: their legends, the shrines in which they are worshipped, their descendants and even the primary purpose of their existence. Called Kami or Mikoto, the Japanese gods have not finished surprising you! 200 celestial, terrestrial and infernal deities have left their mark on Japanese culture. These gods include some forty emperors who changed Japan, before becoming deities in the eyes of their ancestors. Japan's emperor, whether we're talking about Jinmu Tennō (神武天皇) or even the current emperor, holds his power from his illustrious divine ancestors.
How does Amaterasu help emperors during their conquests? How were the Japanese gods born? What is the true origin of today's imperial family? Questions with answers hidden in this book. Anecdotes, legends, stories, conspiracies... The Dictionary of Japanese Gods is the result of nearly 2 years of intensive research into over fifty mythological and religious sources. In fact, it's a veritable bible for fans of mythological tales and Japanese culture.
