I was born in the XIIᵉ century, like the king I served, Richard Iᵉʳ for the English - whose language he didn't speak - , Richard the Lionheart for the French. His reign lasted just 10 years, from 1189 to 1199, but Richard is one of those people who left their mark on history. King of England, Duke of Normandy and Aquitaine, Count of Poitiers, Maine and Anjou, he was also a poet and writer. He wrote in langue d'oïl, but also in Occitan.
Hardly crowned, he concentrated on his French possessions and the Third Crusade to the Holy Land. He distinguished himself there with his friend, the lord of Sablé and future Templar Grand Master, Robert de Sablé. He was killed by a crossbow bolt during the siege he undertook on the castle of Châlus-Chabrol, in the Vienne region.
The lion appears on his coat of arms, of which there are three. The coat of arms adorns my hilt and three lions decorate my scabbard, along with the letter "L" and the Latin cross.
