Templar helmet

Among the Templars' military equipment, both imaginary and historical, are the sword and the helmet. In Europe, the heaume replaced the helmet at the end of the XIIᵗʰ century. It was then a cervelière, a steel skullcap to which a faceplate covering the face was attached, pierced with holes for vision and ventilation. This protection evolved to cover the entire head, including the nape of the neck. The seal of Richard the Lionheart, riding a horse and wearing this type of helmet, attests to its use as early as 1199. The flat-stamped model, forming a cylinder riveted to an ovoid disc forming the top, was easier to manufacture and quickly adopted. The conical shape, allowing better protection of the top of the skull, was then adopted, to take on the ogival shape characteristic of the XIVᵗʰ century.
Because they cause sunstroke, the helmet was hardly used during the Crusades.
