In my lifetime, I would never have imagined that my bust would be used as a model. My characteristic armor (鎧 Yoroï), is thus reproduced with many details, along with my Kabuto (兜 samurai helmet), my Mempō (面頬 samurai mask). As I discover this artistic achievement, I am reminded of the many battles in which I participated. One detail of my armor made it particularly effective: the right shoulder pad, which completed my protection when I drew my katana (刀 long sword) or my wakizashi (脇差 short sword). When my enemies saw this piece of my armor too closely, they only had a few seconds before they suffered the dance and hiss of my sharp blades.
My wish is that this decorative object will perpetuate the spirit of the samurai. The Way of the Sword is an art of living coupled with a martial aesthetic. It transcends time and space.

The odoshi color code: reading Sengoku armor at a glance

Beneath the shiny lacquer, the armor speaks through its laces. The kebiki-odoshi (tight lacing) indicates costly work, typical of small lamellar weaves (kozane) and prestige equipment; the sugake-odoshi (spaced) accompanies with wider blades (ita-mono, Mōgami dō), lighter and faster to produce, a weaponry index designed for Sengoku campaigns. Colors coded membership: for example, midnight blue armour (kon-ito odoshi), while the two-colour strip sets (dan-odoshi) or motifs mongara affirmed a clan's identity. Purple (murasaki), a color of prestige in court culture and governed by sumptuary laws in the Edo period, retains an elite connotation. Precision: the color of the laces does not reveal the exact alloy of the blades (iron or lacquered leather), but the weft (tight/spaced) often betrays the construction and period.
