Sharpened Katana "Murasaki" (紫 Japanese plant used to make purple dye), maru 1060

Sharp katana with varnished wooden scabbard, purple ito (柄糸) and sageo (下緒), supplied with protective cloth cover

Tapered and razor-sharp, I'm destined for the elite. My purple frame would have made any samurai dream. This color was banned during the Azuka period (飛鳥時代 VIᵗʰ century-710) and then reserved for the emperor and officials during the Heian period (平安時代 794-1185). In the Kamakura period (鎌倉時代 1185-1333), it was used to dye the purple armor worn by high-ranking samurai. It remained expensive and reserved for the wealthy during the Edo period (江戸時代 1600-1868).
Murasaki dye (紫) is obtained from the roots of the plant of the same name. It is one of Japan's main traditional dyes, along with indigo and safflower. Purple and violet are also reminiscent of plums. That's why the kimonos worn by geishas are these colors in February, the month of plum blossom.

The reading corner

"The colors of Japanese Art - 496 tones and shades: From Ukiyo-e to Kimono", Kévin Tembouret

With this book, you can use Japanese colors to create works of art inspired by Japan. Find out when and in what context each hue was discovered and used. Who would have imagined that art that broke with the concepts of the Italian Renaissance would become one of the greatest sources of inspiration for European artists? Between Vincent van Gogh, Edgar Degas and Henri de Toulouse Lautrec, Japanese art is fascinating for its subtle, resplendent colors. Artists like Hokusai depict a living, moving nature, where waves have tentacles of foam and trees seem able to move through the landscape. Bodies are not magnified, but posed as vividly as in Robert Doisneau's photographs. Prints from the floating world, Ukiyo-e, depict landscapes in a calm, gentle manner, just like the Zen paintings of Sumi-e. Animals are represented in the same way as plants, with equal beauty and purity. History influences colors, and colors influence history.

Legislation

Since September 6, 2013, new legal provisions stemming from the March 6, 2012 law have come into force. These new rules have strengthened criminal penalties against weapons offenders and introduced a new classification.
Katanas, swords, daggers and knives are now classified in category D. The purchase and possession of these weapons are unrestricted. In principle, they may not be carried or transported without legitimate reason. If transported, the weapon must not be "directly" usable. It must be securely packed in a case or container, preferably with a padlock or other protective system.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I have just received my Katana from Terresens and in one word: sublime!
I already had a hand-forged Katana, and it was feeling lonely, so here it is, accompanied. Mr. Contal is very pleasant and responsive. The personalized engraving is impeccable (and it wasn't easy, as the design was so difficult to arrange, which Mr. Contal did perfectly).
I would recommend Terresens to anyone wishing to buy a handmade Katana, whether for Battodo practice (cutting) or for decoration.
