Tired of his presence and appetite, the locals called in a rōnin (浪人), a former samurai who regained his freedom upon the death of his Daimyō (大名 warlord). Renowned for his many victorious battles, he set off into the mountains in the hope of slaying the animal. To prepare, he had my blade forged and chose a mount bearing many dragons. The battle was loud. Thunderclaps rang out over the mountains, illuminated by supernatural lightning. For seven days, I battled the emerald dragon, handled with an exceptional hand by my master. He succeeded in defeating our adversary with a final blow to the animal's head.
My master decided not to fight again. He entrusted me to the care of a now-defunct temple at the foot of the mountain range. Since then, I've been waiting for a new master to serve and protect me. I'll probably never fight a dragon again, as they've taken on a different form over the years, but my vocation as a protective bulwark remains...
