Tsuchi kara, sharp katana (土から, from soil, earth)
Sharp katana with scabbard (saya 鞘) in black lacquered wood with reliefs (droplets), braiding (tsuka-Ito 柄糸 and sageo 下緒) brown (brown)
Legend has it that I was born from a lump of earth extracted from the sacred mountain, Fujisan (富士山). The master blacksmith who gave me life would have chosen the best ore to transform it, after weeks of hard labor, into a fine blade. Polished, razor-sharp, I was then entrusted to a samurai who took part in the Battle of Sekigahara (関ヶ原の戦い), in 1600. This is how I experienced this major military event in Japanese history, at the beginning of the Edo era (江戸時代 1600-1868).
Lost for decades, found again only a few years ago, I was brought back to life with the help of a young blacksmith who paired me with a new mount reminiscent of my origins, the earth and the humidity of its depths. As for my guard (Tsuba 鍔), made up of three war fans (Gunsen 軍扇), it also recalls its use as protection during sword fights.
