"Steel Lightning" was my master's nickname. It was also given to me when I emerged from the forge, still glowing from the flames. I wasn't born in Japan, but in the French Pyrenees. There are many caves in this mountain range, which has served as the border between Spain and France since the Treaty of the Pyrenees in 1659. It was in one of them, still ignored by maps and inventories, that my creator forged me. After decades of learning and practicing Japanese forging, he had decided to return to his native region. He took refuge in the cave, but every blade he produced was noticed. In the first place, the Japanese sword is not in the European tradition, which is more oriented towards double-edged blades such as swords. But above all, the cutting characteristics could not go unnoticed, slicing heads and limbs with such ease that legends anticipated them.
I'm still marked by the lightning bolts on my sides, by the patterns that cover me, but also by the practice I impose on those who try to master me. The secret lies in speed, like lightning. I emerge from my scabbard, slice and return in a time that might suggest I haven't been drawn.
