My master's sword-fighting technique was inspired by nature, and more specifically by vegetation. Of course, the cherry blossom, the quintessential samurai symbol representing the fragility of existence, the cycle of life and the joy of rebirth, was one of his sources of inspiration, but not the only one. Flora and forest were his favorite places. He knew how to sneak in, hide and leap out to surprise his enemies. That's why my frame features several references to plants, starting with my tsuba (鍔 guard), delicately openworked, with several gold and silver elements.

Mon, sashimono and uma-jirushi, the art of war emblems

Before radio, identity and orders were conveyed through highly coded wartime signage. The my on armour and banners; the family's sashimono backs identified companies and platoons; the enormous uma-jirushi marked the presence of a lord. At the heart of the wars of the XVIᵉ century, these emblems guided maneuvers, bolstered morale and structured the chain of command. Chronicles and painted scrolls show hata-jirushi floating and then nobori with rigid masts, easier to read in the wind. Some famous motifs express the authority of a clan: the three leaves of theaoi of the Tokugawa, the quadruple rhombus of the Takeda, the mokkō of the Oda. Far from being folklore, this visual grammar was a response to tactical and logistical constraints; it lives on in the heraldry of the kamon and, by echo, in certain martial arts where the my remains a sign of belonging.

Legislation

Since September 6, 2013, new legal provisions stemming from the March 6, 2012 law have come into force. These new rules have strengthened criminal penalties against weapons offenders and introduced a new classification.
Katanas, swords, daggers and knives are now classified in category D. The purchase and possession of these weapons are unrestricted. In principle, they may not be carried or transported without legitimate reason. If transported, the weapon must not be "directly" usable. It must be securely packed in a case or container, preferably with a padlock or other protective system.
