Tantō sharpened "The Spirit of the Lake"

Tantō cutting edge with scabbard (saya 鞘) in dark blue lacquered wood and raised gold filaments, braiding (tsuka-Ito 柄糸 and sageo 下緒) dark green, supplied with protective fabric cover

I also carry two longer swords, the katana and the "Spirit of the Lake" wakizashi. Like them, the forest and water are my origins. The samurai I served chose to live on the shores of Lake Biwa (琵琶湖), Japan's largest lake. Often taking refuge in the forest covering the lake's largest island, Okishima (沖島), he lived for decades avoiding contact with the other inhabitants of the region. From this period, I've kept my scabbard with its singular relief evoking the meanders of life, as well as the vegetal color of my braids, tsuka-ito (柄糸) and sageo (下緒). My mount has been remade many times in accordance with the codes my master loved.
Today, several Shintō shrines ("the way of the gods" 神道) dot what was once his home. I still carry his prayers to the kamis (神), the divine forces inhabiting nature. I now need to find a new weapon master who can perpetuate this respectful spirit and, I hope, reform the complete set, with the two aux lames "The Spirit of the Lake".

"Hagakure, the book of the samurai", Tsunetomo Yamamoto

Although it's obvious that a samurai should be attentive to the Way of the Samurai, it seems that we're all a little careless. As a result, if someone were to ask: "What is the true meaning of the Way of the Samurai?", few would be able to give an immediate answer. The reason for this is that no one has asked the question beforehand. This only demonstrates a profound lack of interest in the Way. Neglect is extreme.
Excerpt from the Hagakure
William Scott WILSON, who holds degrees in Political Science and Japanese Language and Literature, undertook in-depth research into the philosophy of the Edo Era (1603-1868) at Aichi Prefectural University in Japan.
For the renowned Japanese publishing house Kodansha, he translated the Japanese classics Hagakure, The Book of Five Wheels, The Sword of Life and The Indomitable Spirit, before writing an authoritative biography of Miyamoto Musashi (Musashi, le samouraï solitaire). The author, who now lives in Florida, regularly travels to Japan for research and personal pleasure.

Tsunetomo YAMAMOTO (1659-1719) was a samurai in one of Japan's greatest clans, the Nabeshima. On the death of his lord in 1700, he chose to retire to a monastery to pray for his late lord's repose, and thus continue to serve him. His book Hagakure was translated into many languages and even inspired a Hollywood film.

Legislation

Since September 6, 2013, new legal provisions stemming from the March 6, 2012 law have come into force. These new rules have strengthened criminal penalties against weapons offenders and introduced a new classification.
Katanas, swords, daggers and knives are now classified in category D. The purchase and possession of these weapons are unrestricted. In principle, they may not be carried or transported without legitimate reason. If transported, the weapon must not be "directly" usable. It must be securely packed in a case or container, preferably with a padlock or other protective system.
