I accompanied the king on his exceptional adventure. More discreet than my older sister ExcaliburI can cut stone as well as wood. My scabbard also protects the one I serve. It was to the Lady of the Lake that I was given to Arthur.
On Arthur's death, after having pacified the two Bretagnes(?) (Great Britain and Little Britain), Excalibur was thrown, at his request, into a magical lake. Skilfully retrieved by an outstretched arm from the water, the sword returned to its mythological place. As for me, my discretion has allowed me to endure over the centuries, in the heart of the Forêt de Brocéliande. Today, I'm stepping out of the shadows to breathe new life into this legend, to uphold the Celtic values that gave birth to it, and to serve my new king.

Carnwennan, King Arthur's forgotten dagger

In Welsh sources of the Arthurian cycle, Arthur is not limited to Excalibur. He also possesses a dagger, Carnwennan, literally "little white handle." In Culhwch ac Olwen, Arthur refuses to part with it, then uses it to defeat the witch Orddu at the entrance to a cave, a scene that highlights the tactical and symbolic significance of the weapon. The Welsh Triads cite it among Arthur's "sacred weapons" along with his spear Rhongomyniad and his sword Caledfwlch. Later compilations in French and Latin often left this dagger in the shadows, contributing to its oblivion. A relic of a warlord, then, as much as an echo of Celtic memory.
