"Saruta-hiko" (猿田彦), iaïto (iaitō, unsharpened training katana), 3 blade lengths
Training Katana, unsharpened Maru 1045 steel blade, rounded tip, three blade lengths: 64, 69 and 70 cm
I'm named after a kami (神), a Shinto deity, but not just any kami. He is the ruler of the earthly kami and guardian of the sky bridge, linking heaven and earth. He is also the patron saint of certain martial arts, including aikido. His full name is Sarutahiko no Ōkami (猿田毘古大神). His cult is dedicated to the Tsubaki Ōkami-yashiro temple (椿大神社), in the city of Suzuka, Mie prefecture.
I was made for training, halfway between the wooden sword (the bokken) and the katana, whose sharpened blade is reserved for experienced practitioners. My tsuba is easy to draw and my blade gives the same feel as a traditional sword, while limiting the risks. I'll accompany you on the martial path where practice is an art, a way of life and an ethic.
