Luger P08 Parabellum pistol, wooden stock
Collectible militaria replica of the German Luger Parabellum pistol (World Wars), Luger P08 (moving parts, non-functional weapon)
I'm one of the very first semi-automatic pistols. I'm the best known because of my wide distribution. Luger Parabellum, Luger P08, these are my main names. The name Parabellum comes from the Latin "Si vis pacem, para bellum" (if you want peace, prepare for war).
I was designed and manufactured in Germany from 1908 to 1942 by Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken, then by Mauser in the 1970s.
Used during the First and Second World Wars, I also served as a regulation weapon in Switzerland and France (Gendarmerie, Armée de terre and Préfecture de Police de Paris) between 1945 and 1955.
During my official life, I didn't undergo any major modifications, but my 9 mm Parabellum ammunition evolved considerably. In many cases, my fragile "toggle" mechanism is no match for today's ammunition, designed for heavier mechanisms such as the MAT 49 in France, the British Sten or the Israeli Uzi.
Since the late 1950s, I've been a collector's item.
