Tsuchi kara, sharp wakizashi (土から, from soil, earth)
Sharp Wakizashi with scabbard (saya 鞘) in black lacquered wood with reliefs (droplets), braiding (tsuka-Ito 柄糸 and sageo 下緒) brown (brown)
Legend has it that I was born from a lump of earth extracted from the sacred mountain, Fujisan (富士山). The master blacksmith who gave me life would have chosen the best ore to transform it, after weeks of hard labor, into a fine blade. Polished, razor-sharp, I was then entrusted, along with the identically mounted katana, to a samurai who took part in the Battle of Sekigahara (関ヶ原の戦い), in 1600. That's how I experienced this major military event in Japanese history, at the start of the Edo era (江戸時代 1600-1868).
Lost for decades, along with my "big sister", the katana blade, only rediscovered a few years ago, we came back to life with the help of a young blacksmith who paired us with a new mount reminiscent of our origins, the earth and the dampness of its depths. As for our guard (Tsuba 鍔), made up of three war fans (Gunsen 軍扇), it also recalls its use as protection during sword fights.
