Konohana-no-Sakuya sharpened wakizashi (木花之佐久夜)
Sharp Wakizashi with scabbard (saya 鞘) in black lacquered wood, black sageo (下緒), white tsuka-Ito (柄糸), supplied with protective cloth cover
Like the katana I accompany, I bear the name of the vital force linked to the blossoming of trees, a symbol of delicate and fragile earthly life, like cherry blossoms. Also known as Sengen-sama, she is the female kami (神, Shinto deity or spirit) of Mount Fuji (富士山 Fujisan), Japan's highest mountain. Located at its summit, the Fujisan Hongū Sengen-taisha shrine (富士山本宮浅間大社) is dedicated to it.
I was forged in a cave on the Sacred Mountain. Heated by the fire of the Earth, cooled by the icy waters coming from the white cap that covers it, worked by a master blacksmith who remained discreet, I served several masters of arms, samurai and rōnins(浪人), without a master. My new mount recalls my birth: black for the depths of the Earth and white for winter snow. This combination of white and black also recalls my vocation to distinguish and separate the pure from the impure.
