La Triquètre

The triquetra is derived from the Latin words " tri- " (three) and " quetrus " (with corners). It's made up of three vesicae piscis (intersection of two circles of the same diameter, the center of each of which is part of the circumference of the other). It may be accompanied by an inner or outer circle. It represents groups of three objects or three people.

Present in Celtic art (notably in the "Book of Kells"), it is often integrated into more complex interlacing patterns. Taken up by Christians to symbolize the Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit), it is used today to represent, for example, Spirit, Body and Soul.

Michonne's katana features several triangles: on the pommel (Kashira 頭), the parting ring (Fushi 縁), the hilt (Tsuba 鍔). On the blade, the engraved symbol is ternary but without being a triqueter. It consists of three arcs of a circle (crescent moons) stacked one on top of the other (they are not intersecting). It's more of a "tribal" symbol.
