Reforged at the end of the Third Age of Middle-earth by the elven smiths of Rivendell from the fragments of Narsil, I came back to life with this sentence engraved on my blade. Aragorn renamed me "Andúril" (Flame of the West).
When Aragorn, heir to the Kings of Armor, confronted Sauron in his mind with the Palantir, stolen by Saruman, he showed me. I had once defeated him at the hands of Elendil, Isildur's father. Twice, then, I had driven back the darkness.

Andúril, Flame of the West, forged with fragments of Narsil

Two engravings adorn the Andúril sword. The first, in Quenya (writing system: Tengwar), present in its previous version Narsil (broken at the end of the Second Age), decorates the pommel:

Narsil [is] my name, [a] mighty sword;
Telchar made me in Nogrod

The second follows the throat of the blade, from the hilt to the tip of the sword. It is in the same language as the first (in a different writing system, Angerthas Eregion) but only appears in the reforged version:

The Sun and Moon represent Elendil's two sons, Isildur and Anárion respectively.
