This book is one of the first to present the evolution of Japanese samurai warriors' clothing, weapons and armor, with photographs of the figures in action. Spanning almost a millennium and the main periods of Japanese history, nearly fifty types of outfit are described and photographed in full color. Thanks to the help and support of the curator of the Kyōtō Costume Museum and the models who lent their assistance, the author was able to produce a book depicting samurai costumes and armor with all possible accuracy, for each major historical period. In addition, a glossary, chronology and index make this book a must-have for all enthusiasts of Japanese history and samurai culture, as well as an indispensable tool for film buffs and 7ᵉ art costume designers.
