Baussant, symbolic Templar dagger

The Baussant is the Templars' battle flag, instantly recognizable by its two contrasting stripes, black and white. Its name comes from Old French. hoarse or Baucens, meaning "magpie" or "spotted," a term already used in the 11th century to refer to horses with two-tone coats.
But behind this apparent simplicity lies a powerful symbolism. White represents purity, faith, and the spiritual mission of the monk-soldiers. Black evokes rigor, death, and the relentless war waged against the enemies of Christ. Together, these two colors embody the fundamental duality of the Templar, both monk and warrior.
According to the Order's rules, the Baussant must never retreat. As long as it remained standing, the knights would continue to fight. Its fall signified total defeat or the annihilation of the unit. On the battlefield, it served as a rallying point, but also as a psychological weapon, reminding everyone that the Templars already considered themselves dead to this world.
