Sharp katana with scabbard (saya 鞘) black, two engravings on habaki, supplied with protective cloth cover

A fine blade with a sharp edge, I was created to serve a very special master of arms. This samurai has always fought for Justice, not to be enslaved by any ruler. That's why my habaki, visible only when I'm out of my saya, bears two symbols. The first, visible to the opponent, represents a kabuto, the characteristic samurai helmet. The second is visible to my master. It represents a rōnin, a warrior without a master, free in his thoughts and actions.
Beyond my feats of arms, I am above all a symbol of Freedom of Conscience and Righteous Deeds, independent of orders from any power. I serve a samurai, capable of becoming a rōnin rather than denying his convictions.

Engravings

The Habaki (鎺), the brass piece that penetrates the scabbard (saya 鞘), is adorned with two laser engravings on both sides. The first engraving represents a kabuto (兜), a samurai helmet. The second engraving depicts a devil mask, attributed to a Rōnin (浪人), masterless samurai.

The engravings are placed so that the samurai appears on the side visible to the opponent, while the Rōnin appears on the side visible to the practitioner when the blade is drawn. These two positions are also "at peace" for the samurai and "at war" for the Rōnin. In the first case, the hilt (Tsuka 柄) is on the left and requires turning over to be grasped. In the second case, the handle is on the right, ready to be grasped.

Legislation

Since September 6, 2013, new legal provisions stemming from the March 6, 2012 law have come into force. These new rules have strengthened criminal penalties against weapons offenders and introduced a new classification.
Katanas, swords, daggers and knives are now classified in category D. The purchase and possession of these weapons are unrestricted. In principle, they may not be carried or transported without legitimate reason. If transported, the weapon must not be "directly" usable. It must be securely packed in a case or container, preferably with a padlock or other protective system.
