Sturmgewehr 44 assault rifle, STG44
Collectible militaria replica of the WWII German assault rifle, StG 44 (moving parts, non-functional weapon).
A German assault rifle developed in 1942, I was first used in 1943 as the MP 43. Widely used in 1944, I was then renamed Sturmgewehr 44, or StG 44 for short.
In German, Sturm means "assault" and Gewehr means "rifle", so I was the first assault rifle, capable of firing powerful 7.92 x 33 ammunition on automatic, at short range, or single-shot, at long range. In effect, I combined the advantages of machine pistols with those of rifles, which is why I became a popular individual shoulder weapon at the front.
Between 1944 and 1945, 500,000 of my pistols were produced, of which 200,000 were not distributed, seized by the Russian occupying troops, with the Waffenamt hallmarks hammered out.
After the fall of Nazi Germany, I served in Yugoslavia, Algeria and Ethiopia, and more recently in Syria.
