MG34 (Maschinengewehr 34), German machine gun with bipod

Militaria replica of the WWII German MG 34 machine gun (moving parts, non-functional weapon).

MG 34 or Maschinengewehr 34, I'm a German machine gun produced in 380,000 units from 1934 to 1945. Thanks to a perforated cooling sleeve, I can achieve a rate of fire of 800 to 900 rounds per minute.
My versatility was a minor revolution on the battlefield. I could be used on my bipod, mounted on an MG-34 tripod, or on a lighter tripod specially adapted for anti-aircraft fire. My bipod also had two positions, one under the muzzle of the gun, which was the most stable, and another at the weapon's center of gravity, which provided a better field of fire.
However, two major shortcomings limited my use: I tended to jam in dusty environments, and I was expensive to produce. I was therefore replaced by the MG 42, which was less sensitive to fouling and more expensive to manufacture.

With the MG 34, the German Wehrmacht introduced an entirely new concept in automatic firepower - the general-purpose machine gun (GPMG). In itself the MG 34 was an excellent weapon: an air-cooled, recoil-operated machine gun that could run through belts of 7.92mm ammunition at a rate of 850rpm, delivering killing firepower at ranges of more than 1,000m. Yet simply by changing its mount and feed mechanism, the operator could radically transform its function. On its standard bipod it was a light machine gun, ideal for infantry assaults; on a tripod it could serve as a sustained-fire medium machine gun; aircraft or vehicular mounts turned it into an air defence weapon ...view more
