"Terre de Sienne" forged sword

European forged sword, XVᵗʰ / XVIᵗʰ century, steel hilt and pommel, brown / ochre wood and leather handle and scabbard.

I was forged centuries ago to pierce the armor of our adversaries. Long and sharp, my blade is not sharpened to preserve and strengthen it. In those days, armor protection plates were impervious to sharp swords. Crossbow bolts could pierce them, but thrusting swords were particularly effective on the battlefield, during cavalry charges or hand-to-hand combat.
In the heart ofArduenna¹, the master blacksmith who gave birth to me wished to recall my origins by choosing the ochre color of burnt mineral pigment. Siena, the Italian city whose name I bear, has long been known for the unique color of its earth. But it's also available naturally in the Ardennes, Germany, Cyprus, England...

¹ Arduenna is the name - probably of Celtic origin - of a forest in and around the Ardennes massif. It also refers to a Celtic goddess, Arduinna.
