Medieval German sword

Medieval fighting sword, faceted sphere pommel, brown leather scabbard with coat of arms and cross

I loved these pilgrims whom I protected. I accompanied them on their way to the Holy Land, guiding them to hospitals when they needed it. I never failed in the mission of my order, in the sands of the East or the forests of the West. There's no need for frills for me; simplicity and efficiency define me. Just this Teutonic cross engraved on my scabbard as a rallying sign, a reminder of my vocation. Even my slightly curled pommel and straight guard are a reminder of the man and the cross to which I'm dedicated.
I'm not in the mood for epic battles or clashes. But I do want to explain, to teach, to reconstruct the period when I was queen.

The Latin cross, reamed engraved on the scabbard of the German Teutonic dagger | #Terressens

Latin cross, bored

Enclosed in a coat of arms, the cross engraved on this sword's scabbard is described as Latin (the lower limb is longer than the other three) and pattée. In this case, it is also bored (the cross does not touch the blazon).

It is found, for example, in a German blazon recorded in the XVᵗʰ century (visual available on the University of Darmstadt website).

I'm a blacksmith, proud of my trade

Perceived as strange and mysterious, even diabolical, since he transforms the elements with fire, the blacksmith is an essential figure to whom knights and all fighters owe much of their equipment.

Hans Talhoffer, famous German fencer and master of XVᵗʰ century fencing, used this type of one-handed sword in the late Middle Ages.

The unsharpened blade is made from heat-treated 1045 carbon steel. The point is rounded and unsharpened. The pommel and quillons are made of steel, and the wooden handle is wrapped in leather. The blade passes through to the guard, linking it with the pommel.

This one-handed sword is perfect for light combat, re-enactment or decoration.

Legislation

Since September 6, 2013, new legal provisions stemming from the March 6, 2012 law have come into force. These new rules have strengthened criminal penalties against weapons offenders and introduced a new classification.
Swords, daggers and knives are now classified in category D. The purchase and possession of these weapons is unrestricted. In principle, they may not be carried or transported without legitimate reason. If transported, the weapon must not be "directly" usable. It must be securely packed in a case or container, preferably with a padlock or other protective system.
