Lee-Enfield Mk III short rifle with magazine (Short, Magazine, Lee-Enfield - SMLE)
Militaria replica of WWI English rifle (moving parts, non-functional weapon)
I served in the British Army, Empire and Commonwealth, from 1895 to 1957. A bolt-action, magazine-fed, hand-repeating rifle, I was its principal weapon. My ancestor, the Lee-Metford rifle, had a shorter life, from 1888 to 1895. My ten-round .303 (7.7 mm) British magazine is loaded manually from the top, cartridge by cartridge, or by five-shot blade-loader.
In this version, Lee-Enfield Mk III rifle with magazine (Short, Magazine, Lee-Enfield-SMLE), I was introduced in 1907. With many improvements, manufactured by different gunmakers, I was used until the beginning of the XXIᵗʰ century.
